Letter from the Headteacher - 3rd April 2020
Today would have been the last day of the Spring term and everybody would have been looking forward to a well earned rest. As you are all aware the COVID19 pandemic has changed everybody's normality. We had to close the school at quite short notice and quickly swing into providing childcare for children of key workers and vulnerable children. This childcare was put in place at very short notice but soon after we began I got a report that a member of staff had been diagnosed with the virus.
This resulted in the school being closed completely and our childcare provision moving to Greenleaf. The school remains closed, as I received another report that a member of staff has been diagnosed with the virus also. As there are currently no tests available in general terms, and no official tracing of personal contacts, it is impossible for me to know where the virus originated. To eliminate any risk I have had to stop any personal contact on the school site for children and adults alike. During the close down the school's cleaners have been cleaning the school after a short break to ensure any traces of virus was not live on any surface.
Due to the self-isolation guidance I am now not in a position to open the school for childcare until Monday 20th April. When we do open there will be strict rules in place to ensure social distancing for adults and children alike. These rules will minimise risks but not eliminate them completely. For those parents seeking childcare who are a key worker or are in the vulnerable child category please look out for a parent mail message straight after the Easter weekend. This message will provide details of who to contact to book places. Please remember that it will not be a general opening on the 20th April - we are open for the children of key workers and vulnerable children only.
For those parents whose children are not at school we have placed work activities for the children on the school's website. This was publicised by ParentMail. We are aware that not all parents are registered for ParentMail, if you know of anyone we are repeating all messages on the school's website. The work set on the website will be updated every week until we are told that we can fully open by the Government.
I am in touch with all staff on a daily basis via e-mail which is much slower than our normal interactions. We are also receiving communications from the local community and responding where we can as there are no staff at school and everyone is working remotely.
I hope everyone stays safe and well and I will be in touch after the Easter break with any up-dates.
